If there is one thing we learned in the last year, it is that nothing is impossible. From virtual classes to online mass, we have embraced digital technology as part of our lives and a norm in today’s world. The catechists of our parish have certainly pushed the boundaries despite coming from various backgrounds to help our children with their faith through remote teaching and learning.
This year, although catechism classes have begun online since January, it did not stop all the language groups from coming together to ensure the children still took part in the annual Lenten Project. As you will see below, it is a testament that with motivation and guidance from the teachers, parents, and the children themselves, anything is possible when you do it for the glory of God.
Bahasa Language Group
From the Bahasa Apostolate group, the children from ages 7 – 9 had a drawing and colouring competition on various themes such as Lent, the Rosary and protecting our earth whereas the children from ages 10 – 12 did a project where they had to make something new from recyclable items. As for the senior students ages 16 and 17, they wrote a reflection on the Bible and what it means to them.
Mandarin Language Group
Like the Bahasa language group, the Mandarin apostolate also had various activities for all their age groups as part of their Lenten project. For preschool and 7 years old, the children did various activities such as 40-day Lenten challenge, making palm leaves out of magazine cuttings, drawing and colouring of the Last Supper and repentance. The children from ages 8 – 12 also did some arts and craft such as making a cross out of paper and pandan leaves, 40-day Lenten calendar, saving our earth and the three pillars of Lent: fasting, prayer and almsgiving. Very artistic indeed! As for the senior class, the 15-year-old children did a daily prayer jar throughout Lent.
English Language Group
The children from the English language group were also no exception to the Lenten project. For Junior 1 (7 years old), the children did a colouring competition, and the teachers picked the best 3 out of all as the winners. Junior 4’s (10 years old) Lent activity was on the 3 pillars of Lent. The children from Junior 5 (11 years old) did a daily Lenten prayer jar whereas the children from Senior 2’s (14 years old) project was to put in their daily savings during Lent into the coin box prepared by using recycle materials. These children have also decided to contribute their savings to The Special Needs Learning Centre (SNLC), a ministry under the Archdiocesan Office for Office for Human Development (AOHD) to carry out Autism works.
A special thanks to the Sunday School teachers for encouraging their students to take part in this Lenten project despite being away from their students and a special thank you also to parents for helping, guiding, and encouraging your children to take part in this project. We have such young talented artists here in Holy Family Kajang!
